Bev's first metric tonne

by Carl Brewer last modified 2007-06-02 08:29 — expired

Bev Vennix passes a major milestone

There's a number of significant things in the career of a cyclist - your first commute to work, your first race, your first time on a velodrome, on a roadbike, first time up the local mountain, and your first century (100km, metric, 162km, imperial).

This morning, without any special preparation, on a cold and rainy morning Bev and I set off to meet Nath for a few base miles.  Arriving at Chez Larkin, only to find Nath deciding to stay dry ... ok.  Bev and I set off down to Edithvale, along Beach Rd (rainy & cold!).  Up to Port Melb (and my first puncture in 9 months thanks to a chunk of glass), a quick stop for a muffin and hot chocolate, then back home via the Boule and Mont Albert Rd.  Passing through Mitcham and Bev yells out 'woo hoo, 100km!'

Great ride, Bev.  A metric century.

Bevy Boo- well done!!!
Although you had that big gallutte as a wind break!!!!
In all seriousness cyclists can be complacent about distances. We often just don't think about how far we actually ride. 100km is heaps. In fact it is ages since I have done 100km in one day.

Using Carl as a wind break!

Thanks Nick, but it gets really boring watching Carl's bum for that length of time. I'd much rather ride beside him and drive him crazy with my constant chatting!

Yes but he is agreat wind break Bev. I have been stuck behind this little woman who rides D grade many times. May as well have been out in the wind. it must be the universe, I keep getting stuck behind her. Being behind Carl is like being in a wind tunnel without wind. But there are a few disadvantages:

* he farts;and,
* he can get distracted if there are female walkers around.
But the main advantage is that:
YOU DON"T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH HIS CRAPPY JOKES
