New hire equipment - bike hardcase

by Carl Brewer last modified 2007-04-10 18:30 — expired

We now have available for hire, a hard case for bikes

Adding to aboc's slowly growing list of services, we now have available to hire, a hard case for transporting bikes safely on planes, trains and busses etc.  Please see the hire list section of this website for rates.

This is a great case!

The case is a snug fit for my 60cm Cannondale, though most people will have smaller bikes. I removed the wheels, seat, pedals, handlebars and chain rings (yes, the case is not quite tall enough - any bigger frame and you'll have to remove the right crank completely).

After the bike and all the parts go in the case, there's enough free space for some riding clothes, helmet, shoes, drink bottles, and some tools and a few rags.

The total weight for all that gear is 29 kilograms - giving 3 kilograms leeway on the 32 kilogram limit for airline baggage. The wheels on the case make it really easy to haul around, and work well on footpaths. The handles are good too.

It fits across the back seat of a taxi - so there's no need to pay the extra to get a maxi-taxi to or from airports, and you won't need to have someone with a ute to collect you. But it fits in the tray of a small dual-cab ute too, just in case.

It's only just too big for the checkin at Tullamarine, so you have to take it to oversize baggage. But, it came out with the regular baggage at Perth and collected 3 people standing close by, giving me plenty of room to wander in and retrieve it from the carnage!

All up, this is a good case. It protects the bike well, and is easy to get around.

Two thumbs up. :-)

Rich.
