How to lay off the leader
This is a skills drill, teaching the lead rider to hold a distance from the rider behind and the following rider to hold an offset above the leader while lapping the track. Riders take turns leading and following, no attacks are made but the following rider may alter speeds to force the lead rider to maintain 2-3 bike lengths of separation and the lead rider may move up and down the track to force the following rider to respond to track movement.
This drill also is useful for teaching the lead rider where the blind spots are on a particular velodrome.
