Neil Robinson MTB report

by Neil Robinson — last modified 2008-11-16 19:16

Neil's been riding very well as usual, at the Gravity 12 hour and Officer 6 hour

Just a quick update on my racing.

I’ve had a couple of races recently with reasonable results.

The Gravity 12 hour at Beechworth on the 8th of November and the FTF 6 hour at Officer on the 16th.

I raced Gravity in a 3 man team, we decided to treat it as a hard training session so took single speeds along. The course has not technical but it still took some skill to carry speed on the fast trails. To ensure our comfort in the event of rain (it never eventuated) we also decided to race in 2 hour blocks rather than lap on lap off. At the end of the day we finished 6th, a mere 12 minutes down on 3rd, not too bad considering our decisions regarding gears and laps.

Officer was a much more technical course, but the laps were brutally fast (22-24 minutes). I raced a pair with a mate and it wasn’t until around the 4 hour mark we found out we were holding 3rd by ~15 minutes. I was happy to keep my laps reasonably consistent all day, but kept my best time for my last lap. There was 23 minutes and 23 seconds left in the race when I went out on my last lap, my previous best lap was my first (23.38) so Ashley (my team mate) decided to get changed. Ashley has now learnt that with a bunny (a fellow Baum rider went out 22 seconds in front of me), and the opportunity to send out a team mate with seconds to spare I will destroy myself to put in a fast lap. 5 hours, 59 minutes and 46 seconds gone in the race I crossed the line to see Ashley dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, I’d lapped in 23.09 and while our 3rd place was secure I still demanded he changed to go out again. Sadly he was too comfortable in civies so I had to console myself with the BBQ put on by the scouts.

The three will see me race road crits, a national XC round at the You Yangs and the Kona 24hr at Forrest.
