Road rules - NOT!
Just another blog...
You'd think that if you lived near the 1-in-20 that you'd expect cyclists to be riding up the hill.
Alas it wasn't the case on Tuesday morning when a motorist failed to stop at the T-intersection at the top of Inverness Ave where it joins Mountain Hwy. The driver failed to see me and my buddy and pulled out in front of us. I'd seen the car slow down at the intersection and assumed it would stop, given we had the right-of-way. It didn't help that the sun was in my eyes but I'm not sure it would have made any difference. My buddy called out and seeing the car I reached for the brakes but never got there. My bike hit the car diagonally where the number plate is. Both bike and car were probably doing about 20km/h at the time. I'm lucky the car wasn't accelerating. I bounced off the bonnet and landed on top of my bike. No real damage to me but the front wheel is cactus and I'm getting the frame/fork checked for damage too.
I can't really think of a lesson to be learned. Will I have to watch every car at an intersection like a hawk from now on? Probably...
Anyway this is not really MTB related except to say trees and rocks never actually failed to give way...
